Chaos rocked Masinde Muliro University Wednesday morning after students went on rampage protesting what they said was frequent internet outages and a directive requiring students to clear their fees arrears before sitting for examinations.
Kakamega police were called in to maintain order even as students engaged them in running battles.
The University was later closed and students ordered to leave the university premises by 2pm on Wednesday.
MMUST has been in the news for all wrong reasons. Last August, a 22-year-old fourth-year student was found dead. Belinda Akeyo Achieng had just completed her industrial attachment.
She is the sixth Mmust student to die in eight months in unexplained circumstances.
