Employment and Labour Relations Court’s Justice Stephen Radido on Thursday issued a temporary order of injunction prohibiting the Chief Justice David Maraga from swearing into office the Chairman and 8 Members of the National Land Commission.
President Uhuru Kenyatta made the appointments on Wednesday in a special gazette notice a day after parliament approved the nominees on Tuesday.
The latest order came after human rights activist Okiya Omtatah sought to block the new officials led by Chairperson Geirshom Otachi.
Omtatah had earlier argued that the Selection Panel that interviewed the NLC bosses was incomplete having missed two members appointed by the NGO’s Coordination Board.
On Tuesday, however, Lands Committee Chairperson in the National Assembly Dr Rachael Nyamai explained the NGOs Coordination Board had replied to Head of Public Service Mr Joseph Kinyua saying that they could not have given the two nominees owing to their internal capacity challenges.
