University lecturers without PhD degrees will continue to cling on their jobs after the Employment and Labour Relations Court nullified regulations by the Commission for University Education (CUE) on Wednesday.
The lecturers had been required to hold doctorate degree by the end of the year in order for them to continue teaching at the universities
The case had been filed by lecturers at Machakos University. Agreeing with them, Justice Stephen Radido noted that as primary stakeholders, they were not consulted when the regulations were being developed.
The decision will push the CUE back to the drawing board in its’ attempts to harmonize and standardize quality of the universities teaching staff
