Industrial Area Prison in Nairobi has been placed on lockdown as a way to coronavirus in a move that led to protests from families of warders and other staff working at the correctional facility.
Officer in Charge Stephen Waithaka said the move was “in respect of the Covid-19 infection, control and prevention measures put in place for the safety and health of all staff members and their families”.
In a notice to all prison officers, he added that no one be allowed to “enter or leave the road gate at any given time”.
“The non-compliant should immediately be reported to Infection Prevention Control Committee,” he warned
