DONE DEAL: Bungoma Governor Wycliff Wangamati at the Council Health Management Team meeting
Governor Wangamati today addressed members of Hospital Boards and Council Health Management Team(CHMTS) in a meeting that sought to induct the team into their roles and responsibilities in supporting the healthcare function.
The Governor urged the Board members to take their positions as an opportunity and responsibility to serve the people of Bungoma.
He lauded the passing of the Health Act as key to his agenda to transform healthcare.
“Thanks to this Act, our health facilities have been mandated to spent revenues collected at source,” Governor Wangamati said, adding that as a result, there are consistent flow of hospital supplies including drugs and non-pharmaceutical in facilities.
“With these collections, we have also been able to renovate and equip all the nine sub county hospitals including Chwele, Bokoli, Kimilili, Cheptais, Bokoli, Naitiri, Bumula and Kapsokwony to limit referrals to specialized facilities.
Other facilities that have since been renovated are health centres among them Mechimeru, Malakisi, Kabuchai, Tongaren, Milo, Kimaeti and Bulondo. Also renovated are Nasusi, Karima and Kaptanai dispensaries.
Governor Wangamati committed to continue investing in increasing capacity at all sub county health facilities in a way that will limit referrals and allow Bungoma County Referral Hospital to serve as a “Referral facility” proper.
Already, a 300-bed capacity mother and child complex in Bungoma and another 100-bed capacity facility in Sirisia are under construction. Another two 100-capacity hospitals are earmarked for Tongaren and Bumula this financial year.
CEC Health Dr Antony Walela challenged the team to constitute a Quality Team at every facility to work at improving service delivery ranging from turnaround time, optimizing equipment and resources at their facilities and limiting referrals to only very essential cases.
Opening the session, Chief Officer Health Patrick Wandili thanked the Governor for his “unwavering support” of the healthcare docket, saying the partnership has saved the sector many upheavals and staff unrest that continue to characterize other Counties.
