Bungoma Governor Wyclife Wangamati’s could be next on the line for impeachment after his snubbing County Assembly summons irked some MCAs.
The public and administration committee Chaifrman and Khalaba MCA Majimbo Okumu summons to responds to several issues including ongoing recruitment of 236 village administrator without budget, went unheeded.
Through the county secretary, Wangamati gave mocked the summons terming them “illegal, unprocedural and unconstitutional”.
Okumu however fired back at Wangamati saying the first time governor cannot hide under technicalities that the summons were not signed by the County Assembly Clerk.
“The chairman of the committee, Honourable Majimbo Okumu, has made public comments on the matters raised before the committee, thus raising doubts on his impartiality to adjudicate the matter,” Wangamati’s said through a letter signed by his county secretary.
“County assembly power to summon witnesses. (1) A county assembly or any of its committees has power to summon any person to appear before it for the purpose of giving evidence or providing information.(2) For the purposes of clause (1), an assembly has the same powers as the High Court to—(a) enforce the attendance of witnesses and examining them on oath, affirmation or otherwise …”
Majority leader Joseph Nyongesa accused Wangamati of undermining the MCAs, not following the law and trying to do things his own way.
If they keep their word, the MCAs could end up having the impeachment debate on Tuesday, next week
